Most people think of vinegar in salad dressing, but here are some vinegar hacks that you may not have thought of. These will definitely save you some time and money. I am sure that there is at least one of these that you can put into use today.
Mineral Deposits
Boil one cup of vinegar and four tablespoons of backing soda in a tea kettle to get rid of mineral deposits. The could also with with shower heads. You will need to put it in bowl and hold it up to the head. Another option would be to let it cool and put it in a plastic bag, then use a rubber band to keep it on. It will just take longer to work.
Baby Clothes and Diapers
Add a cup of vinegar during the rinse cycle to baby clothes and diapers. The vinegar breaks down uric acid and soap for fresh clean baby clothes.
Polish Furniture
Furniture polish can be made with 1 cup olive oil and ½ cup vinegar in a spray bottle. All you need to do is spray on a cloth to polish and then wipe dry with another cloth.
Feed the Plants
Acid loving plants will benefit from 1 cup of distilled white vinegar mixed into a gallon of water, then water the pant as usual. Works great for Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas and Gardenias.
Kill Pesky Insects
To get rid of anthills you just simply pour distilled white vinegar right on top. Who knew it was that easy?
Sticky Gum
Removing chewing gum is a pain in the ass. Luckily all you need to do it rub it with full-strength vinegar. IT might take a little time to break it down, but it works.
Shinier Hair
Are you a Brunette? Want shiner hair? Use one tablespoon of vinegar mixed with one cup of warm water after shampooing and rinse through your hair. It’s just that easy.
Still Use the Good Silverware?
Shine your silverware or any silver for that matter. You will soak the silber in ½ cup of white vinegar mixed with 2 tablespoons of baking soda for 2-3 hours. Then run it under cold water. Be sure to dry completely with a soft cloth and they will be shiny like new.
Salt Remover
If you live in a cold region with snow you likely get salt on your shoes. Simply wipe a fresh salt stain with a cloth dipped in full-strength white vinegar. It instantly removes the salt and no stain will be left.
Crayon on Walls
If you have kids, then you have likely had to remove crayon from walls. Don’t get mad just take a toothbrush dipped in vinegar and scrub. The vinegar breaks down the wax and the pigment from the crayon. Unfortunately there is a possibility that it could remove some paint. You might want to check a place that people don’t see first.
Kill Fleas
I think this is the strangest way to kill fleas that I have ever heard of. You will add a little distilled white vinegar to your cats or dog’s drinking water. This some how makes it so fleas will die after getting on your pets. Be sure to check with your Vet before doing this in case there is a health issue with your pet.
Smoke Odors
If you or someone in your house still smokes, you know the smell. It isn’t pleasant and seems to get into everything. You can remove the smoke odor from clothes by putting them in a bathtub that has been filled with hot water and a cup of vinegar. Leave for an hour or until the water has cooled off.
Stop the Itch
Who hasn’t had the dreaded mesquito bite? The itch like crazy and never seem to stop. Vinegar to the rescue again. You can stop any insect bites from itching by using a cotton ball dipped in full-strength distilled white vinegar. Rub on and the itch will stop. You may need to reapply.
Bad Breathe
Bad breatheis a funny thing. If you have it you might not know it. Then to top it off most people won’t tell you that they smell your breathe. Most of the time it’s caused by bacteria. To kill it you can brush your teeth one or twice a week with distilled white vinegar. Just remember that tooth decay can casuse it too. So this won’t work for that. You’ll need to see your dentist.
Garden Critters
If you love growing your own veggies you might have encountered critters stealingfrom you. You can keep rabbits and some other critters from your garden by placing a small container with cotton balls soaked in distilled white vinegar. Be sure that you have holes in the container so that they smell the vinegar.
Wilty Veggies
Ever had wilty lettuce. It sucks. You can improve wilted vegetables by soaking them in cold water that has a spoonful or two of distilled white vinegar. The salad is saved.
Onion Hands
Onion smell seems to linger long after you’re done cutting it. You can rub your hands with distilled white vinegar after cutting an onion and the smell will simply disappear.
Vinegar has so many uses well beyond what we think of. I must say that my favorite one is for shinier hair since I am a brunette. I know that using it on wilted vegetables will be a great money saver instead of throwing them out.
